Famiclonar eru leikjatölvu eftirlíkingar. Fyrstu leikjatölvu eftirlíkingarnar voru endurframleiðsla af leikjavélum síns tíma. Seinna, með þróun hálfleiðara var hægt að setja örgjafana, minnið og aðra lógískar rásir saman í eina sílíkón rás. Famiclomar urðu til að fullnægja eftirspurn þar sem stóru framleiðendurnir Nitendo, Sony og Sega seldu ekki sínar vörur. Famiclonar voru þó, á sama tímabili, ólöglegir vegna einkaleyfis stórfyrirtækjana þriggja.[1]
Árið 2003 rann einkaleyfi Nitendo út, og Famiclonar urðu löglegir. Við þetta urðu til nýjir famiclonar sem flæddu markaðin af ódýrum leikjatölvum.
