English: The merchant Laurents de Geer was Commissioner of the Swedish Crown in Amsterdam in the 1640s/1650s. He was it, which end of 1649/begin of 1650 together with his brother Louis de Geer in the name of Queen Kristina of Sweden equipped the ships for two expeditions of the Swedish “Afrikanska Kompani” to the West African Gold Coast in 1650, after the Swedish commissioner Neumann was returned and had presented in Stockholm under other the contract with King Bredewa of Fetu. Laurents de Geer was it which could recruit Heinrich Carloff for the Swedish enterprise to the Gold Coast. In 1650 two Swedish expeditions set sail in direction to the Gold Coast, where was begun with the building of Fort Carolusburg (the later Cape Coast Castle). The other expedition begun with the building of Fort Taccarary (Takoradi, the later Fort Witsen) where existed a Swedish factory already since 1640.
