Pólýfónkórinn og kammersveit – Messías, tónleikar 1977 er þreföld hljómplata með upptöku af óratóríunni Messíasi eftir Händel í Háskólabíói 22. júní 1977. Platan er gefin út af Pólýfónkórnum í desember 1978. Flytjendur eru Pólýfónkórinn, kammersveit undir forystu Rutar Ingólfsdóttur, einsöngvararnir Kathleen Livingstone, Ruth L. Magnússon, Neil Mackie og Michael Rippon. Stjórnandi er Ingólfur Guðbrandsson. Hljóðritun: Ríkisútvarpið. Frágangur tónbands fyrir skurð og pressun: Tryggvi Tryggvason. Prentun á umslagi/öskju: Kassagerð Reykjavíkur.

Kórfélagar Pólýfónkórsins í flutningi Messíasar voru um 130 talsins og kammersveitina skipuðu um 30 hljóðfæraleikarar. Daginn eftir tónleikana héldu kór, einsöngvarar og hljómsveit í söngferð til Ítalíu og fluttu þar Messías, ásamt Gloriu eftir Vivaldi og Magnificat eftir Bach.

Um verkið

Óratórían Messías var samin árið 1741 af Georg Friedrich Händel (1685-1759). Textinn er tekinn saman af Charles Jennens úr textum Biblíunnar. Óratórían var frumflutt í Dublin árið 1742 og sungin á ensku.
